Brick Buildings in Nashville (oil 8/10 panel SOLD

Started the sketch outside (en plein air I think they say) and I finished it from memory the next day. It's behind the Lifeway building off 9th I think. I can't remember those road numbers. One of these buildings was an old piano store. I think they are abandoned or hobos stay in them. I did see a rat.

Loading Dock (Gouache 4/6)

Another version of the loading dock or shipping dock, whatever it's called. This is in gouache on Cresent illustration board. 

Nickel Crypt at Mt Olivet oil *SOLD*

This was painted 9 years ago almost to the day. It was a cold day and a little windy so I finished it at home. As plein air goes, I am not hard core. Mt Olivet Cemetery in Nashville is a pretty cool place as graveyards go. Lot's of interesting monuments and sculpture. One guy's tomb looks like Napoleon's. Another is all done up like a Greek temple. The old Nashville City Cemetery is interesting as well. I have done a few pencil sketches there.

Tangerines, Juice and Shell (Oil 9/12)

I did this way back in 94. I thought about it today when I went to the store to get some OJ. It has about doubled in price since the big freeze. I came home without juice needless to say. I may have to give up OJ until the next crop. If milk doubled in price I would be up the creek. I need my milk. Email me the title if interested in buying.

This is based on my pencil sketch down the page of the Smoker's Friend market in Canajoharie NY. I don't smoke but I purchased a cup of coffee there. Nice folks.

Bridge of Lions St Augustine oil 11/14 *Sold*

This is the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine FL. It's a beautiful bridge but a bottleneck for traffic especially when the drawbridge is up.

St. Augustine View (Oil 6/8) *Sold*

It was cold this week so I pulled out one of my watercolor sketches I did in St Augustine FL last May. I was standing by the Castillo de Marcos fort looking out toward the bridge at low tide as you can see. St. Augustine is my favorite place in FL. Plenty of sites to see plus my folks live there.

Pasture (Strathmore "baby" pad 4/6)

I keep one of these baby Strathmore pads close at hand. I like the Strathmore 400 series paper. Nice off white color. This was drawn last fall from my car.

Church in Nashville (oil 6/8)

I started this on our wet Christmas afternoon in downtown Nashville. (Go Predators!) In no time flat panhandlers arrived like pigeons. I gave up, took a digishot and finished it at home. This is the First Baptist Church across the street from Hume Fogg and the Customs building. Nashville is chock full of interesting buildings. Other than the panhandlers, downtown is great.

Restaurant Sketch

I drew this while waiting for our food at Rossi's in Smyrna. These ladies are really chowing down. Rossi's serves some good italian food. Pay them a visit. I have been visiting a lot of folks drawing blogs as well. I always enjoy seeing coffee shop and restaurant sketches with people doing what they do in those joints.

Waldron Road Barn (wc)

I mailed my Christmas package today. I thought I would have to wait in line a long time, but the PO folks were fast at the Hickory Hollow PO. I still had plenty of time to sketch this barn that will soon be gone. I got home and watercolored my sketch. Oh yea, there was a hawk perched on the barn checking me out while I drew. I wish he would come over to my house and eat those damned squirrels that eat the suet and bird seed. I say squirrels are just bushy tailed rats with good PR.

Sunset near home *Sold*

St. Johnsville Building

St. Johnsville is a neat little town. Plenty of old homes and buildings to draw. Be sure to visit Parkside restaurant. I believe Dr. Sodhi has an office in this building.

Smoke Shop

A place called Smoker's Friend in Canajoharie. I don't smoke, but I bought a cup of joe and sat in my car and drew their shop while drinking my coffee.
