This was painted 9 years ago. I remember it was a cold day and a little windy so I finished it at home. As plein air goes, I am not hard core. Mt Olivet Cemetery in Nashville is a pretty cool place as graveyards go. Lot's of interesting monuments and sculpture. One guy's tomb looks like Napoleon's. Another is all done up like a Greek temple. The old Nashville City Cemetery is interesting as well. I have done a few pencil sketches there.
Some folks emailed and wanted to see this masterpiece again... Here it is. This Kinkade piece needed something. So I added Godzilla and a giant moth. I hear he uses maple syrup for his painting medium with high fructose corn syrup added for extra sweetness. ( I liked his plein air book.) Price $10,000,495.99 + Free Shipping
Di and I drove up to Upstate NY via I-81 the week of Halloween. It took us through Virginia's Shenandoah valley. I snapped a few shots with the digicam at about 70 mph of some morning mountains. I like to drive through the mountains and look down in a valley and see a little town through the trees. I then have to head down to check it out and a grab a cup of joe. If I am lucky there is a place featuring local art.
I painted this from my pencil sketch and memory. One grave said 1887 and the others were too worn to read. These old graveyards are deteriorating fast as well as the old barns. The old barns are helped in their passing by bulldozers! When these farms are passed down to the heirs, they usually get sold because folks cannot afford the inheritance taxes owed to THE MAN. ;-P
I always see this old abandoned bank on my way to McMinnville TN. Built in 1919 No money is left in there, I checked. I wish someone would fix it up, it would make a nice shop.
Yesterday on the way home from work I found a shady spot and set up my easel in Nolensville TN and painted this old abandoned house. I did a watercolor of it last year while sitting in my car. Every time I drive by I expect it to be razed.
I drove to the store the other evening at dusk with the moon out and the business lights just coming on. The cows were doing their thing. I locked the scene in my memory and painted it before I went to bed. I always like the light at this time of day. (Painted 1/7/07)
Go round the curve down the hill and head on to Smyrna Tennessee. Plein aire here = Ousley as roadkill! A dangerous road as another curve was behind me, so it was back to the studio for painting. (Wm. Moore, I added the poles and wires just for you.)
Another Warren County TN scene I painted last September. There were a bunch of these yellow flowering weeds in this field. I remember also a nice breeze blowing that day.
Look familar? I painted this Lacassass scene from my plein aire watercolor in the plein aire of my studio with nice cool aire from my AC. The cows went back home in this version. Available at Local Palette in Lunchburg TN. http://localpalettegallery.com/
This is out in Rutherford County near Eagleville Tennessee. That late afternoon sun was kicking up some clouds. Just a tease, no rain. We passed through College Grove and got a cold drink. I will probably go back because there is a church I want to paint. Maybe someone will buy it for the pastor. I like that Arches watercolor block by the way.
I am an artist living here in LaVergne TN with my wife Diane and cat Mini. I paint in oils, watercolor and acrylic. I also enjoy playing keyboards at home and church.
